Special Needs for Children in Switzerland

It was designed by Jenny Lyon, a British Chartered Educational Psychologist, who now, in September 2009, is opening a clinic for special needs in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex, England (10mins from Brighton, 1hr from London, 20 mins from London Gatwick Airport). (c) children aged 16-19
The weekday mornings will be devoted to specialist teaching offering:
- A full psychological assessment (if required)*
- Pre and post testing for all children
- An intensive individualised programme tailored to meet your child’s particular learning profile and needs
- Small teaching groups (a maximum of 8)
- State-of-the-art IT facilities using recently developed software
- Proven teaching methods based on current research
- A continuation programme and future monitoring (if required)*
*Available at an extra charge for those children who require a full psychological assessment and/or an ongoing teaching and monitoring programme.
The programme is organised and supervised by Jenny Lyon, a British Chartered Educational Psychologist with over 25 years of experience in the UK and with European international schools. She established one of the first dyslexia support services in Switzerland, at Aiglon College, in 1980-1984.
Consultants for the programme include leading British experts: Anne Henderson, a leading specialist on teaching maths to children with dyslexia, Dr Nicola Yuill, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the Unversity of Sussex and a specialist in reading comprehension, Kate Ripley, Senior Educational Psychologist, Hampshire Education Authority and Dr Chris Singleton, Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology, University of Hull.
Classroom teaching will be with experienced tutors who have specialist qualifications in teaching children with dyslexia. These include Judith Stansfield and Anne Wood. Jenny Lyon and Dr Nicola Yuill will also be assisting in teaching: Jenny with literacy skills and Nicola with reading comprehension and advanced computer skills.
A maximum teacher/pupil ratio of 1:6 is planned. The opportunity to work on an individually focused and intensive learning programme will help each pupil to develop personal coping strategies that can be used later to work with greater independence and confidence, both at home and school.
Outside class, children will be full members of the well-established and highly successful Leysin American School Summer in Switzerland programme, enjoying a wide range of sporting and cultural activities in an idyllic alpine setting, with children from around the world.
Places are strictly limited on this course, which will be a centre of excellence, offering a unique approach for children with dyslexia. Early applications are strongly advised.
